WORKSHOP: Defying Gravity

This workshop will focus on arm balances of all shapes and sizes: defying gravity one pose, one transition, at a time. 

After a brief warm-up to prepare the body, we’ll be playing with several exercises to experience the inner engagement, alignment and buoyancy required to take weight into the hands and float the feet off the mat. There will be opportunities to encounter a whole ream of arm balances - from the firefly to the dragonfly - perhaps even soaring effortlessly between them. Rather than relying on brute upper-body strength, I will offer expert tips and guidance demonstrating that the ability to fly in your yoga practice often comes down to finding subtle tipping points, working with counterbalance, using the whole of the body to express the pose, and all whilst breathing, breathing, breathing!

Whether just beginning to lift off into your crow pose, or investigating the possibility of gliding in between balances, beginner versions will be offered alongside more advanced modifications so that this workshop will have something for everyone.

I am so looking forward to welcoming you as I return to this secluded, luxurious villa for 7 days & 6 nights of joyful yoga & meditation, delicious food, and delightful excursions to my favourite beaches for sunsets and swimming. There will be plenty of downtime to explore the magical “White Island” at your leisure, or to immerse yourself in tranquillity whilst you rest and replenish poolside.

THE VILLA

Our home for the week is The Chettinad: a peaceful haven nestled in the hills overlooking the rural Sant Agusti valley in the South West of the Island. It's just pure bliss! This centuries-old “finca,” or farmhouse, has been lovingly restored with a beautiful blend of classical architecture and modern interior design.

 

There’s plenty of indoor and outdoor communal space, including a terraced swimming pool framed by group seating and dining, as well as natural rock landscaping, beds of fresh herbs, and groves of trees bearing almonds, figs, pomegranates and oranges: so many options to choose from when in search of a secluded place to chill!

 

Our yoga practices will take place in a giant geodesic dome overlooking the stunning surroundings, and will be fuelled and nourished by wholesome home cooking prepared on site.

THE ISLAND

Crystal waters, rugged coastline, pine-covered hills, green fields and soft golden sand: Ibiza has it all. We’ll be steering clear of the party crowd, and instead spend time exploring the breathtaking beaches on the “sunset” side of the island. Also worth investigating are the various hippy markets dotted around, and the historical centre of Ibiza Town.

9am Meditation & Dynamic Morning Yoga

11am Brunch

Free time (& snacks always!):

…poolside at the villa/massages/explore the island on your own initiative/group excursion to beach

5.30-7.00pm Evening Yoga (yin, restorative, partner and acro yoga, or workshop)

7.00pm Dinner

During the week there are 2 beach day-trips: one of those evenings we eat out whilst watching the sunset over the sea.
