In this special extended practice we will root ourselves right down into the earth, taking delight in a little dance of give and take with the ground, and anchoring our awareness in that steady sense of connection and support as we flow in gentle spirals around the mat. Galvanising a sense of stability and security, the grounding nature of the sequence will explore the body’s full range of motion, unravelling physical tension and cultivating steadiness, space and strength, before surrendering into the support of the floor and props for soothing restorative and yin releases and blissful relaxation.
A self yoga practice can be a powerful tool in which to carve out time and space in your life just for you: to connect to how you’re feeling and take exactly what you need from your yoga, whenever you need it, and all in the time you have available. However, it can be daunting to think of where and how to start, so this session takes care to demystify yoga, breaking down the physical and energetic concepts of sequencing, and ultimately demonstrating that all you need is a playful attitude of curiosity and a trust in your own body’s wisdom.
This extended practice begins with a soothing spiralling flow around the mat, enjoying the capacity for lubricating movement to bring our awareness back into the body and, with an attitude of gentle curiosity, explore and nourish what we encounter there. Unsticking and unravelling tension, the emphasis of this class always rests on the moments of transition and breath in-between the poses, moving from the inside out, rather than overly straining or pushing ourselves into any particular shape or position. As the flow softens into the stillness of restorative and yin releases, the waves and ripples of the practice begin to settle, and you can begin to yield and rest in that vast, deep inner world of experience, full of ease, something shifted.
Mindfulness meditation is a super simple but powerful practice that anchors us back in the rich simplicity of present experience, cultivating our capacity to engage in the full spectrum of our lives more skilfully and wholeheartedly. This session introduces and contextualises the straightforward methods underlying mindfulness meditation, and explains how and why they work (including within the context of anxiety and depression) before we practise a led meditation together and discuss ways in which to bring these practices into daily life.
A creative, spiralling flow to unfurl, expand and brighten the body, drawing you away from the habitual linear patterns of daily life, unravelling tension and shifting any stagnant energy. By connecting to and radiating from a sense of your strong, powerful centre, we can begin to move with purpose, take up space in the world, remember our own vitality, and celebrate our strength. The class closes with soft restorative releases where you can bathe in that sense of vitality and life shimmering through your whole being, replenishing yourself there before surrendering into blissful relaxation.
In yoga there are many different powerful practices that control, enhance and harness the possibilities of our breath in order to connect to, explore and transform how we are feeling: energetically, physically and mentally. In this session, we will explore several different techniques, feel their effects on the nervous system firsthand - whether uplifting, soothing, stimulating or replenishing - and discuss how and when we can bring them into yoga and life.
A gentle, circular flow coaxes our body towards an exploration of freedom, liberation, breath and space, lifting and lightening the energy to leave you standing a little taller, breathing a little bigger and thinking a little more clearly. Having unfurled and opened up, restorative and yin releases will bring us back down to earth to rest, replenish and nourish, filling ourselves up so we can go back out into the world ready to engage wholeheartedly with our lives again.
