The Energy Flow series of extended classes is designed to creatively explore the vayus: the five main ways ancient yogis described the experience of energy flowing in the body. Each class is an invitation to get curious about a different vayu through playful vinyasa, calming yin, as well as breathwork and meditation, taking delight in the different energetic, physical and mental effects they can bestow.

This session explores Apana Vayu, the experience of grounding in our yoga practice. We begin with a dynamic vinyasa sequence to galvanise our relationship to the earth, building a steady foundation to support us, to feel safe and to trust as we move, balance and play. The class then surrenders into soothing yin releases and calming breathwork techniques to downregulate the nervous system: an opportunity to surrender and yield more completely into rest.

Throughout the weekend I will be sharing the transformative yoga practices I hold dear: vinyasa, mandala, yin, restorative, nidra, mantra, pranayama (breathing), mindfulness meditation and much more.

There will also be plenty of downtime to explore the countryside at your leisure, soak in the hot tubs, steam in the sauna, receive a massage, and immerse yourself in the tranquillity of the farm. I reckon we all deserve a good bit of pampering!

Week 2: Subtle Energy

This special series of four sessions will empower you with the knowledge, skills and techniques to take off and fly in your yoga practice: towards shoulderstand, headstand, forearmstand, handstand and beyond. 

Building on ideas explored in the previous class, this session inquires into the deep energetic actions that help you feel light and find control when upside down, demonstrating that it’s not always about brute strength and muscling our way in. Once again, we will discover these actions in the rest of the yoga practice so that they become second nature even when inverted. Expect to work towards forearmstand, and pressing into inversions in this class, although students are welcome to continue their practice with headstand and handstand as well.

This session explores Vyana Vayu, the experience of full-body effervescence in our yoga practice. A rhythmic, flowing vinyasa sequence spirals through the body’s full range of motion to awaken a sense of vitality shimmering and sparkling through us. The class then settles into something much more like stillness where you can bathe in that experience of energy, soak it up and recharge.

After a brief warm-up to prepare the body, we’ll be playing with several exercises to experience the inner engagement, alignment and buoyancy required to take weight into the hands and float the feet off the mat. Hugely empowering and exhilarating, there will be opportunities to encounter a whole ream of arm balances - from the firefly to the dragonfly - perhaps even soaring effortlessly between them. Rather than relying on brute upper-body strength, I will offer expert tips and guidance, demonstrating that the ability to fly in your yoga practice often comes down to finding subtle tipping points, working with counterbalance, using the whole of the body to express the pose, and all whilst breathing, breathing, breathing!

This special extended class explores Udana Vayu, the experience of uplifting energetic flow in our yoga practice. A dynamic vinyasa sequence encourages us to lift and lighten both physically and mentally as we explore the space above and around us. We then surrender back down to earth, settling into yin releases and mantra meditation to find clarity and ease.

Week 3: Variations & Transitions

This special series of four sessions will empower you with the knowledge, skills and techniques to take off and fly in your yoga practice: towards shoulderstand, headstand, forearmstand, handstand and beyond. 

As you get more accustomed to being upside down, you can begin to play with variations within and between these poses. This requires subtle control over the relationship between different body parts, which can be especially challenging to maintain when your whole world has been flipped upside down. Once again, this is something that we can practice in the rest of our yoga, working towards eagle, goddess, straddle and lotus leg variations, as well as the possibility of moving between different inversions.

Each class is an invitation to get curious about a different vayu through playful vinyasa, calming yin, as well as breathwork and meditation, taking delight in the different energetic, physical and mental effects they can bestow.

This session class explores Samana Vayu, the experience of gathering energy inwards to fuel our yoga practice and life beyond. Throughout the flow we will anchor our awareness in an idea of the very centre of ourselves, connecting and integrating to a sense of strength and steadiness there as we spiral through different shapes and experiences. The class will then unravel into sweet yin releases and breathwork to nourish and empower.

Week 4: Upside-down & Inside-out

This special series of four sessions will empower you with the knowledge, skills and techniques to take off and fly in your yoga practice: towards shoulderstand, headstand, forearmstand, handstand and beyond. 

In our final session, we will combine the accumulative work of the previous few months to work towards backbend variations whilst upside down, including scorpion and hollowback, finding space, breath and ease in these deep postures. All that's left is to enjoy the uplifting energetic, emotional and physical benefits backbends and inversions can bring. As potent antidotes to our forward-facing, desk-ridden lives, these transformative poses strengthen around the spine, enhancing posture and breath-capacity, all whilst lifting the mood, stimulating the nervous system, and clarifying the mind. We’ll be floating back out into life!
